The sculpture “Chapeau!” was created in 2021 and measures 36 x 7 x 5 cm. It is made of copper and stands on a small, stable base that gives the slender figure support and presence.
At first glance, the painting depicts a man removing his hat and greeting someone. This gesture appears light, almost playful, and conveys an immediate, visual encounter – a moment of courtesy and reflection.
However, the work's intrinsic meaning goes beyond this. The removal of the hat symbolizes the exclamation "Hats off!" – an expression of recognition, respect, high regard, and admiration for a special achievement or for the person themselves. The sculpture thus combines an everyday gesture with a deeper, symbolic message.
The technique involves free-form welding of molten copper. Drop by drop, the material was built up and shaped using a welding torch. This process creates an organic, vibrant structure that makes each piece unique. Every sculpture is one of a kind and exists only once in its execution.
