The large-format work "Tempel" from the Volk cycle measures 2 x 2 meters and unfolds a monumental effect through its special technique. The relief-like surface and the multi-layered materiality lend the painting a strong spatial presence.

The composition opens up like a vast, sacred space – comparable to a temple hall or a central assembly place. At its heart is humankind as the central motif. It forms the thematic and visual focus of the work.

In the upper section, numerous groups of people are clustered together in a compact structure reminiscent of a frieze or ornamental band. This arrangement alludes to ancient cultures, tradition, and collective memory. It symbolically represents history – the history of countries, places, and peoples.

Every society is founded on its past. Old traditions live on within us; we draw knowledge and orientation from them. At the same time, we are shaping a new history that emerges from our present. Particularly in recent decades, our region has been profoundly influenced by new forms of migration. These developments have fundamentally changed our society, not only demographically and politically, but above all culturally.

"Tempel" is understood as a symbol of community and identity. Human beings exist in the tension between individuality and belonging. They are part of a larger whole – unique yet interconnected. The work conveys a quiet but clear message: Every individual possesses inherent dignity and is simultaneously part of a shared human history.
